World Bank hails Vietnam’s poverty reduction efforts
(VOVworld) – Vietnam has succeeded in its poverty reduction programs, creating a firm basis for dialogue and broader cooperation with the World Bank. Vietnam’s efforts were hailed by World Bank East Asia and Pacific Regional Vice President Axel van Trotsenburg while responding to a VOV correspondent in the US. Mr. Van Trotsenburg said that over the past 5 years, the World Bank has provided Vietnam 1.9 billion USD in loans and he hoped loan to Vietnam will be expanded in the future. Van Trotsenburg promised the World Bank’s continued support to help Vietnam obtain more loans and use them effectively.

The World Bank official suggested that to become an industrial, developed country and assume a position in the world arena, Vietnam must restructure its state-owned enterprises, fine-tune its financial system, and focus investment in education to keep up with global changes.
