(VOVWORLD) - A virtual international round-table conference of political parties opened on Tuesday, with a focus on security cooperation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chaired by President of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, the event drew party leaders from China, Japan, Germany, Cyprus, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Ukraine, Serbia, Spain, and Vietnam.
Delegates urged governments to give priority to human health, step up cooperation, and honor international agreements banning the use and development of biological weapons. They encouraged joint efforts to develop and share COVID-19 medicines and vaccines.

Hoang Binh Quan, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, proposed policy coordination, prompt and regular sharing of information and experience, and providing citizens in pandemic-hit areas better access to information, treatment, and humanitarian assistance. He also proposed that law enforcement agencies and people worldwide increase cooperation in coping with non-traditional security threats and upholding the role of international organizations and multilateral mechanisms to promote anti-pandemic efforts and ensure global security.
Vietnam won praise at the conference for its successful fight against COVID-19 and its people-centered approach to issues. Suggestions offered by Vietnam were acknowledged by other conference participants.
