A ceremony to review the activities of Youth Year took place on Friday in Hanoi. Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan commended the role of the young people especially their contributions to the campaigns for the poor, seas and islands and environmental protection. Mr. Nhan also asked the Vietnam Youth Union to make further progress, consult with the Party and State, rally its members  in socio-economic development and prepare for the National Youth Union Congress in October 2012: "The Youth Union should promote solidarity among the youth, actively participate in Party building, mobilize social sources and cooperate with State-owned agencies in the youth’s activities as well as develop youth movements in rural areas and industrial parks. It is necessary to educate  the young people about political ideology, tradition and patriotism and help them take part in practical activities through revolutionary movements".

10 young people who have excelled at their study, work, national defence and sports were also be honored at the event.
