Businesses praise phone talks between General Secretary To, US President Donald Trump

(VOVWORLD) - Economists and businesses have praised the phone talks between Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump on Friday on Vietnam–US relations and bilateral trade.

They expressed their hope for stronger trade ties and greater export-import opportunities between the two countries in the future.

 Le Hang, Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said: "This is an extremely positive signal for Vietnamese seafood enterprises and the business community at large. I greatly appreciate the Party and Government’s efforts, especially General Secretary To Lam’s decision to hold this phone call. It marks a turning point, and I hope the US will make favorable changes to its tariff policies towards Vietnam."

Tran Chi Dung, Secretary General of the Vietnam Logistics Business Association, said: "The General Secretary’s prompt action and readiness to negotiate toward a zero-tariff agreement demonstrates Vietnam’s swift and proactive approach. It reflects a consistent policy of the Party and Government leadership to open and cooperate equally with all countries. We are excited and already thinking about practical steps to follow this direction."

Economist, Dr. Le Dang Doanh, said: "I greatly appreciated the phone call between General Secretary To Lam and President Donald Trump. President Trump responded positively and expressed his satisfaction with the discussion. Both sides agreed to continue negotiations to address emerging trade issues. I hope future discussions will achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. I also hope President Trump will soon visit Vietnam a the invitation of General Secretary To Lam."

Following the phone call, shares of several companies with large-scale production operations in Vietnam, such as Nike Inc, Lululemon Athletica Inc, On Holding AG, and Skechers USA Inc, surged on the global stock markets.
