Their project was supported by RENEW, an organization founded by Quang Tri province and international NGOs as an effort to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by cluster bombs and other munitions remaining in Quang Tri province.
Vice Principal of the Cua Viet preschool, Tran Thi Kim Lien, said: "The murals on landmine clearance are useful for children to know how to avoid explosive ordnances from the war. The kids are glad to see the paintings and they can understand the advice from their teachers more readily.”"
Nguyen Thanh Phu, a representative from RENEW, said the FJC Charity Fund of the US will fund a project to paint 17 murals on landmine clearance in Quang Tri province. “As part of our next educational program on landmines and bombs, we’ll have more visual and experimental activities. Communication through public art works makes a strong impression and is very effective.”
