(VOVworld) – US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse issued a statement on the 20^th anniversary of the normalisation of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US.

US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse made a remark on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the mornalization of diplomatic relations between the US and Vietnam

He said the anniversary is a historic milestone and American and Vietnamese people can be proud of the progress made to forge a lasting peace and friendship. The statement called the recent US visit by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong a historic trip during which both sides discussed shared interests and opportunities for closer collaboration on a range of issues, including regional stability, economic cooperation and the lingering and environmental consequences of the war.
The statement said that as the US and Vietnam continue to deepen their relationship, they should continue to address the legacies of that war, particularly the health effects and environmental contamination associated with Agent Orange and other herbicides.
