(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam opened its first international exhibition of defense equipment on Thursday in Hanoi.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang, and officials and military commanders from other countries attended. The 2-day event has attracted 170 exhibitors from 30 countries, showcasing cutting-edge combat vehicles, technologies, systems, and equipment for air force, navy, army, and signal corps.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said: “Vietnam’s defense policies are directed at peace and self-defense. The Vietnam People's Army is actively participating in appropriate forms of defense cooperation, both bilaterally and multilaterally. The international defense expo creates opportunities for cooperation and research of the latest trends of the defense and security industry around the world. The expo gives Vietnam a chance to diversify its arms trade and receive technology transfers to strengthen its armed forces amid traditional and non-traditional challenges.”

Defense Minister Phan Van Giang said Vietnam advocates strengthening its national defense capacity while fulfilling its international responsibilities and obligations. The Vietnam People's Army wants to promote international integration and defense cooperation with all countries.

A number of conferences will be held within the framework of the event, including conferences on digital transformation in defense and cooperation between the defense industries of Vietnam and other countries, plus a forum on a Vietnam-Japan defense industry partnership.
There is a display of milestones of the Vietnam People's Army in each historical period and an area introducing Vietnam's culinary culture.
