(VOVWORLD) - The "Greening Truong Sa" program, launched by the Navy in 2021, has yielded positive results, creating a green, clean, and beautiful living environment for both the soldiers and islanders on the Truong Sa island. Looking ahead to 2027, the Navy plans to expand this initiative.

Over the past three years, the “Greening Truong Sa” program has planted nearly 90,000 trees, including coconut, casuarina, banyan, moringa, mango, and other species, across the islands of Truong Sa district. The program has brought in 400 tons of fertilizer and 3,000 tons of fertile soil. Some 30,000 trees have been nurtured in nurseries on the islands and the mainland.
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Cuong, Political Commissar of Sinh Ton Island, said: “The “Greening Truong Sa” program has expanded Vietnam’s “green lung” to many islands. On Sinh Ton island trees now cover our living area.”
Lieutenant Colonel Vu Manh Hai, Commander of Song Tu Tay Island, Brigade 146, Naval Region 4, said: “Last year Song Tu Tay island planted 4,000 trees of different varieties. We dig holes and fill them with fallen leaves to make compost. We also have fertilizer and soil sent from the mainland. We must use a net to cover the trees to protect them from strong winds.”
Rear Admiral Nguyen Dinh Hung, Deputy Commander of the Navy, said the program “Greening Truong Sa” creates material and spiritual values and demonstrates the sentiments and sense of responsibility Vietnam feels in protecting the sovereignty of the national sea, islands, and continental shelf. The program needs practical support from localities, businesses, organizations, and compatriots nationwide and overseas.
From now to 2027, the Naval Region 4 Command, soldiers and islanders will continue to zone land for tree planting, expand nurseries, and mobilize forces to transport trees and materials to all the islands.
