10,000 trees were donated to the Thai Thuy Wetland Nature Reserve in Thai Binh province at a ceremony launching the annual tree planting festival and celebrating World Wetlands Day on Tuesday.

The Ho Chi Minh Youth Union and the People's Committee of Tuyen Quang province launched a tree planting campaign at the Tan Trao National Special Historical Site in Son Duong district last Thursday. Participants, including Party and State leaders, youth union members, and local people, planted trees at the memorial for revolutionary predecessors.

Bui Quang Huy, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union, said: “The Secretariat of the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union calls on youth union members nationwide to start with small but practical and meaningful community activities. The annual tree planting festival demonstrates the pioneering spirit and sense of responsibility of Vietnamese youth and the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union in protecting the environment and responding to climate change.”

A tree planting festival, part of a program to plant 1 billion trees between 2021 and 2025, was launched across all localities in Bac Kan province on Tuesday. Bac Kan stands out as one of Vietnam's leaders in afforestation and economic development through forestry. Its 100,000 hectares of planted forests give Bac Kan the greatest forest coverage in the country at 73%.

Trieu Duc Van, Director of Bac Kan’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: “This year Bac Kan province plans to plant 3,500 hectares of new forests, but we may exceed the target because localities have sped up planting trees and forests. People have improved planting methods and selected trees matched to the soil and climate, such as cinnamon, anise, and acacia.”

Tree planting not only enhances the environment but also supports Vietnam's sustainable development goals and the government's commitments at international forums, including achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
