(VOVWORLD) - In the first two months of this year, Vietnam's total export turnover surpassed 64 billion USD. The 12 main export items each had a turnover of more than 1 billion USD.
The Ministry of Finance’s Department of Statistics reported that, from January to the end of February, Vietnam's export turnover totaled 64.3 billion USD, 8.4% more than in the same period last year. 12 export items earned 1 billion USD or more each. A number of key export categories that struggled in 2023 have regained double-digit growth.
The electronics, computers, and components sector led the way with exports exceeding 12 billion USD, a 25% increase. Phones and components followed at 9 billion USD, then machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts at 7.6 billion USD, and textiles and garments at 5.6 billion USD.
Other export categories that earned more than 1 billion USD were wood and wood products, footwear, seafood, coffee, rice, rubber, iron and steel, and cashew nuts.
Several product groups saw growth although they didn’t reach the 1 billion USD threshold. Pepper earned 720 million USD, and fruits and vegetables earned 930 million USD, driven by rising demand from the Japan, US, and European markets.
Dragon fruit, mango, passion fruit, and jackfruit were particularly popular in China and Europe. Plastic product exports reached 870 million USD, up 13.5%, again driven by rising demand from the Japan, US, and European markets.
The US remained Vietnam's largest export market, with total turnover exceeding 19 billion USD, while China was Vietnam’s largest source of imports – approximately 23 billion USD.
