After 4 days, the conference failed to issue a joint statement due to discord among the 164 WTO members.
At the event’s closing ceremony, WTO Director General Roberto Azevedo expressed his disappointment with the results of the conference and criticized the US’s tough stance on trade protectionism. But he insisted that some progress had been made and said the members remain committed to continuing negotiations and supporting multilateral trade.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to multilateral trade and hailed the role of the WTO. He said Vietnam is ready to cooperate with other countries to resolve the WTO’s problems.
