(VOVworld) - Thirteen big businesses, including oil giant Shell and retailer Walmart signed a petition on Wednesday urging US President Donald Trump to keep the United States in the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The letter stated that the businesses and their partners are strengthening climate resilience, and investing in renewable, nuclear, bio-fuel, carbon capture, sequestration, and other innovative technologies that can help achieve clean energy transition. It added that for this transition to succeed, governments must lead. US business interests are best served by a stable and practical framework facilitating an effective and balanced global response. They believe that the Paris Agreement provides such a framework. On Tuesday, Energy Secretary Rick Perry said he believes the US should remain part of the deal, but renegotiate it. The White House said it will make a decision next month.
