(VOVworld) – Quang Tri province’s people’s committee on Tuesday held a conference to mark the 5 years of friendship with the two Laotian border provinces of Savannakhet and Salavan. 

Quang Tri shares a 200 kilometer border with the two Laos provinces. In 2005, Quang Tri and both provinces launched a movement to boost friendship and cooperation between hamlets along the border. Many have now forged strong links after the 5 year program. Ngo Xuan Doan is commander of the troops along the province’s border: "The most important thing is that we promote unity and solidarity between the hamlets on both sides of the border which will ensure security and national sovereignty. Both cultures and economies will benefit from the  peoples in those provinces cooperating with each other".
