th European Literature Days opened at the Goethe Institute in Hanoi Thursday with representatives from Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden, the UK, Italy, Spain, and Belgium Wallonie- Brussels region. The event will take place from May 5-10 in Hanoi and May 8-12 in Ho Chi Minh city.
Among 25 activities, the highlights will be commemorations of the 400
th death anniversaries of English playwright William Shakespeare and Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. Le Tuyet Nhung, representative of the Wallonia-Brussels delegation, said: “The European Literature Day will give Vietnamese audiences a broader understanding of foreign literatures and cultures.”
“Sungs Laden” by German writer Karin Kalisa was introduced at the opening ceremony. In this humorous and touching story the destinies of former Vietnamese contract workers interest the lives of citizens of the German Democratic Republic.
