At a national conference reviewing the impact of Vietnam Book Day, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam hailed publishing houses, organisations and individuals for sending books to remote areas. The mass media have also played an important role in promoting reading habits and a love for books.
“It’s necessary to combine reading culture with other social movements such as building cultural families and lifestyles. International exchange and participation in international book fairs should occur regularly to introduce Vietnamese publications to foreign readers and vice versa,” Mr. Dam said.
Two major cities – Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City – have book streets in operation, while many localities regularly organize book festivals. A national book award ceremony has been held every year.
