(VOVworld) – Thousands of people in Paris and adjacent areas gathered on Sunday at Place de la Republique square to pay tribute to victims of terror attacks at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish supermarket a year ago. Participants observed a minute of silence.

Among them was President Francois Hollande, who also attended a similar event at a major mosque in Paris. The commemoration marked one year of the historic demonstration in Paris attended by 1 million people and 50 state leaders to show their solidarity with France in the fight against terrorism.
On January 7th, 2015, two masked gunmen opened fire in the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, killing 11. On their escape, they killed 1 police. 2 days later, one of the two terrorist stormed Hyper Cacher, a kosher market in Vincennes. He killed 4 and took 17 as hostages.
