Activities to mark 67th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day

(VOVworld) – Many activities are taking place across Vietnam to mark the 67th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day on July 27. Senior leaders of Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday laid wreaths and paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the City’s Martyr Cemetery, Cu Chi Martyr Cemetery, and Ben Duoc Memorial Temple.
In Hanoi, an art performance was held on Saturday morning in commemoration of fallen soldiers and war invalids who rendered great services to the national liberation and reunification. The annual event, held by the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Online Newspaper since 2008, also aims to promote the national fine tradition of remembering the source of the water we drink. Nguyen Cong Dung is Deputy Editor in Chief of the Vietnam Communist Party’s online newspaper: "We have presented 900 gift sets and saving books worth more than 50,000 USD to beneficiary families in Ha Nam, Hanoi, Ha Tinh, Ha Giang, and Quang Tri."

Earlier, Hau Giang provincial leaders visited and presented gifts to local beneficiary families on Friday to mark the occasion. This year, the provincial authorities spent more than 150,000 USD on various activities to ensure good living conditions for people who rendered great services to the nation. Truong Van Huan is a resident in Gia Rai district’s Phong Thach Tay commune: "Beneficiary families like ours have received significant support from the local authorities. With the government’s monthly allowance, we can invest in shrimp raising with a hope to escape poverty."

To mark the occasion, Da Nang City has organized a number of visits to beneficiary families. The city has presented gifts to 24,000 people who rendered great services to the nation at a cost of 250,000 USD. The municipal authorities also spent nearly 450,000 USD from the provincial budget to support heroic Vietnamese mothers, beneficiary families, and war invalids.
