AIPA 41: ASEAN unites to overcome challenges
(VOVWORLD) - The 41st General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly has agreed on the agenda, nominees for the AIPA Distinguished Service Award, the admission of new observers, the initiative to establish AIPA Young Parliamentarians, and a date to organize the next AIPA General Assembly.
Chairman of the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam Bin Ibrahim lauded the ongoing AIPA 41 hosted online by Vietnam with the theme “Parliamentary Diplomacy for a Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN Community”.
“The theme of our meeting this year is relevant to the current context as we are facing unprecedented challenges in adapting to the so-called new norms. I believe that AIPA will be able to assist ASEAN to overcome the challenges and respond to the impending future.”
President of Cambodia’s National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin said, “The Cambodian parliament upholds the effort of ASEAN focusing on maintaining and promoting peace to achieve stability in the region and as well as the settlement of disputes based on the principle of international law and diplomacy and avoiding the use of force. I’d like to express my appreciation to Vietnam for leading a successful ASEAN summit and AIPA General Assembly.”
