ASEAN chief looks forward to Vietnam's Chair in 2020

(VOVWORLD) - ASEAN Secretary General Dato Lim Jock Hoi said that 2020 will be an important year for Vietnam and ASEAN when Vietnam will take its position as the ASEAN Chair.

In an interview with VOV to mark ASEAN’s 52nd anniversary, he said ASEAN has successfully maintained regional peace and stability using its own mechanisms and partnerships with other countries. Amid complicated developments globally regarding trade and territories, maintaining regional peace and stability is a very important task.
The ASEAN Secretary General spoke highly of Vietnam’s role: “Vietnam is progressing very well for the last 10 to 15 years. Vietnam's economic growth was at 7 to 8%, and is one of of the major econoomies now in ASEAN. The Secretariat will work closely with Vietnam Chair next year in order to develop the programs that you have indicated to us. We look forward to Vietnam's Chairmanship next year."
Dato Lim Jock Hoi also said Vietnam will uphold Thailand’s agenda on sustainable development, climate change response, education, human resource training, regional peace, stability, and cooperation, and the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Vietnam assuming ASEAN Chair in 2010 marked the country’s significant progress in global integration.
