In his opening remarks, Malaysian Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Maximus Johnity Ongkili stressed the need to strengthen commitments to energy cooperation globally and within ASEAN for the sake of energy safety, economic growth, and environmental protection.
The AMEM 33 examined a report on the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) for 2011-2015, adopted a draft APAEC for 2016-2020 and reviewed activities of ASEAN networks on energy in specialized areas. The meeting agreed to continue intensifying existing cooperative ties and maximizing support from foreign partners and international organizations towards building a sustainable ASEAN energy sector and ensuring a supply of energy for socio-economic development and energy access for all ASEAN citizens.
