(VOVworld) – The ASEAN Study Center was inaugurated at North Eastern Hill University in Meghalaya, north-east India, on Monday. Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi first mentioned the establishment of the center in his statement at the 13th ASEAN-India Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in November, 2015.

Vietnam’s Ambassador to India, Ton Sinh Thanh, hailed the establishment of the ASEAN Study Center in a region which shares similarities with ASEAN countries in its history, culture, and climate. As the coordinator of ASEAN-India relations between 2015 and 2018, Vietnam believes that the Center will enhance an understanding of ASEAN among the people of the northeastern region, so boosting relations between India’s north-east region and ASEAN. At the inauguration ceremony, Thanh donated the Center with a range of publications about Vietnam.
