(VOVworld) – Chiefs of foreign delegations to the 11^th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi have expressed deep sympathy with the Vietnamese and Philippine people for the human and material losses caused by typhoon Haiyan. 

Attendees to the 2-day meeting that concluded on Tuesday called on ASEM members to express solidarity through practical action to support the two governments to overcome this difficult period. Many of the ASEM members announced their aid to the Philippines and expressed their readiness to help Vietnam if it has specific requirements. Vietnam itself also declared support worth 100,000 USD to Philippine victims.

The Vietnamese Embassy in the Philippines said that about 100 Vietnamese people were living and working in Tacloban city, Leyte province, which was the worst-hit by the waves. Through a hotline, the Embassy managed to get in contact with those who are stuck there and asked them to gather in the city’s center to make rescue easier. The Philippine military said that they would facilitate conditions for the Embassy staff to use military C130 aircraft to send necessities to the victims as soon as possible.

Vietnamese Ambassador Truong Trieu Duong said as most of airports were almost destroyed, the rescue supplies would be sent to the nearest airport in Tacloban before being delivered to Vietnamese victims by other means of transports.
