The West African nation is suffering two security crises. It has successively suffered attacks near the western border with Mali and Burkina Faso by Islamist militants linked to al Qaeda and Islamic State.
At the southeastern border with Nigeria, Boko Haram insurgents are posing a serious threat, killing hundreds of soldiers and people last year alone.
