(VOVWORLD) - At least 22 people were killed and many more were wounded in an armed attack at Kabul University in Afghanistan on Monday, which was claimed by the Islamic State (ISIS).
Most of the casualties were students and there were fears the death toll could climb further with some of the wounded said to be in critical condition. Two gunmen stormed a university building on Monday, the second time in less than two weeks that an educational institution in Kabul was targeted by ISIS extremists.
Last week, at least 24 people, mostly students, were killed in a suicide attack on an educational center in western Kabul, also claimed by ISIS.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the horrific attack. He said those responsible must be held accountable, and that the UN stands by the people and government of Afghanistan in support of their long-held aspirations for peace.
