The UN agency made the announcement at a meeting in Ethiopia’s capital of Addis Abeba on Wednesday.
Belgium's German-speaking community with the support of Belgium’s beer production industry submitted the application to the UNESCO one and a half years ago.
With the listing, UNESCO has recognized that beer is part of the living heritage of a range of communities throughout Belgium. It plays a role in daily life and festive occasions.
