BRICS countries promote multilateralism

(VOVWORLD) - Current international challenges should be addressed through a reinvigorated and reformed multilateral system, according to an online meeting on Tuesday of the foreign ministers of the five emerging economies known as BRICS.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, and India, who is chairing the group for 2021.
The BRICS foreign ministers said that, given the devastations of the COVID-19 pandemic, multilateralism is an essential tool for ensuring successful governance of matters of everyday life and promoting people’s well-being and a sustainable future for the planet.
Members agreed to a temporary waiver of Intellectual Property Rights for vaccines. They stressed the urgent need right now for sharing vaccine doses, transferring vaccine technology, and developing local production capacity and supply chains for needed medical products.
