(VOVWORLD) - Visitors to Dak Lak province are invited to meet and take photos with six elephants and learn about local culture as part of the Buon Don Elephant Festival 2025, which opened on Wednesday.

The festival honors the role of elephants in the cultural life and economy of the local people, as well as the bond between human and nature. The six participating elephants have all been raised and cared for in Buon Don District.
At the event, visitors can also learn more about the local water wharf worshipping ceremony and a ceremony to pray for the elephants' health, an elephants’ “beauty contest,” and a buffet for the elephants.
Y Kun Knul, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Krong Na commune, where the festival is being held, said, "The rituals are long-standing customs passed down to us from our ancestors. We are working to preserve our cultural identity, no matter how many years have passed.”
The Buon Don Elephant Festival 2025 is part of the 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival which aims to introduce Dak Lak province’s cultural and ecological tourism to visitors at home and abroad.
