Mr. Lam delivered a keynote policy speech themed "Vietnam's policy on science, technology, innovation and digital transformation development in the new era and opportunities for Vietnam-Singapore cooperation" at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (NUS) Wednesday afternoon.
The Party chief said Vietnam is facing a new historical moment and determined to step into a new era - the era of national prosperous development. In that context, he shared Vietnam's strategic vision on science, technology and innovation.
“Vietnam identifies science, technology and innovation as key drivers of national development. We understand a nation that wants to be strong and prosperous must be based on knowledge and innovation. Vietnam’s goal is to become a modern industrialized country by 2030, and by 2045 - the 100th anniversary of the founding of the country - to become a developed country with high income.”
General Secretary To Lam highlighted what Vietnam is set to do to achieve its goals, saying “Institutions, human resources, infrastructure, data and strategic technology are the core, in which institutions are the prerequisite, which need to be completed and move one step ahead. Innovate the thinking of building laws to ensure management requirements and encourage innovation. Focus on ensuring high-quality human resources for the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, and adopt special mechanisms and policies on talent.”
Afterwards, General Secretary To Lam answered questions from students of the National University of Singapore.
