(VOVWORLD) - Cambodia on Wednesday announced it will blockade the capital Phnom Penh for the first time since the COVID-19 epidemic broke out there in late 2020.

According to a government announcement, the capital and neighboring Takmao city will be closed down for 14 days beginning Thursday. Nonessential travel will be restricted.
According to the Cambodian Health Ministry, Cambodia recorded 178 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, 149 of them in Phnom Penh. Cambodia has recorded a total of 4,800 COVID-19 infections and 35 fatalities.
