The CPP said the main reason was that the CNRP insists the role of the National Election Committee (NEC) must be defined in the Constitution and the appointment of its members must be approved by at least two-thirds of the 123 members of the National Assembly. The CPP said it is disappointed that the CNRP is setting conditions to hinder the upcoming election. Meanwhile, the CNRP said CPP’s rejection of its proposal was the cause of the failure. The opposition said it is willing to continue the dialogue with the CPP only if the latter accepts its demands.
