Prime Minister Hun Sen casts his ballot

(VOVworld) – Cambodia People's Party (CPP) has declared its victory in the 5^th national parliamentary election which was held on July 28. In a statement, the party affirmed that the CPP obtained the majority of the votes, securing its leadership for the next 5 years. The statement called on people to maintain stability, security, and order after the election. CPP spokesman Khieu Kanharith said that the party gained 68 of 123 seats. The National Election Committee has not yet announced the official result. Cambodia’s Constitution stipulates the new elected parliament will summon its first meeting session 60 days after the election at the latest.
