(VOVworld) -  Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has lifted the one-month ban on public protests now that public order has been restored.

 The government imposed a temporary ban on demonstrations on January 4 after two protests turned violent, leaving at least 5 dead and 40 others injured. The political crisis arose following last July’s election in which the Prime Minister’s Cambodian People's Party (CPP) won 68 parliamentary seats against 55 seats for the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).
The CNRP refused to accept the outcome, boycotted the parliament, and conducted repeated protests demanding a new election. Leaders of the two parties met twice last September in an effort to resolve their differences but failed to reach any agreement.
