(VOVworld) – The Cambodian government has declared that protests and demonstrations staged by opposition leaders Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha were illegal and intended to cause social disorder.

Tith Sothea, a spokesperson for the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of Cambodia’s Council of Ministers, said on Wednesday that their actions violated the national constitution and were an attempt to topple a legitimate government.

Sothea said Prime Minister Hun Sen’s administration was established based on the constitution and the law in force, and represented a majority of voters across Cambodia, so the opposition’s demand for the current government’s resignation and a re-election tramples on Cambodia’s constitution.
