The sanctions will effectively freeze the assets of the individuals, and will ban them from entering Canada, said Chrystia Freeland, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs. The sanctioned individuals were responsible for or complicit in the extrajudicial killing of Khashoggi. Germany also imposed sanctions, including travel bans on 18 Saudi citizens linked to the murder. Khashoggi was killed on October 2 at the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.
