Canada wishes to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in climate change response

(VOVWORLD) -Canada seeks to promote the global carbon pricing initiative and expects Vietnam to consider joining this program, said Catherine Stewart, Ambassador for Climate Change of Canada.

Meeting with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations on Wednesday, Stewart said the initiative put forward by the Government of Canada aims to create a forum for countries that have established a carbon market as well as countries interested in this issue to exchange, learn from experience, and enhance technical assistance, towards the goal of pricing 60% of global carbon emissions by 2030.

She praised Vietnam’s efforts in climate change response and energy transition.

Ambassador Giang reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment made at the United Nations Climate Change Summit 2021 (COP26) to net zero emissions by 2050 and energy transition.

He said Vietnam wishes to strengthen cooperation with Canada in finance, investment, technical support, experience sharing, especially in the field of renewable energy.
