Addressing a meeting of the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in Hanoi on Wednesday, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nguyen Hoang Hiep, asked prone provinces to get ready for evacuation and rescue efforts.
He said “Reservoirs in the regions have to be on the highest alert. Even the reservoirs in the northern and southern central regions only hold up to 35% of their capacity, they are mostly of small scale and must be alerted to continuous torrential rains. Irrigation networks and pumping facilities must be on stand-by to ensure safety.”
