Central region’s largest thermal power plant generates record output despite COVID

(VOVWORLD) - The Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant, the largest of its kind in Vietnam’s central region, generated 6.5 billion kWh of electricity in 2020, the highest power output since it was put into commercial operation in 2015.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the plant’s revenue totalled 345 million USD last year.

Director Ngo Van Chien said, “Our top priorities this year are safe and efficient operation, meeting environmental standards, and being ready for maximum operating capacity. We will also focus on technical improvements to increase the efficiency of the turbines and reduce coal consumption.”

Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant, invested by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) has a total capacity of 1,200 MW, and a total investment of 1.25 billion USD.
