(VOVworld) – A ceremony was held in Buon Ma Thuot city on Tuesday to mark the 40th anniversary of the Buon Ma Thuot victory which liberated Dac Lac province on March 24, 1975.
Chairman of Dac Lak province’s People’s Committee Pham Ngoc Nghi said the victory began the 1975 Spring Offensive, which led to the liberation of southern Vietnam and eventual national reunification: “The Buon Ma Thuot victory was an honor and the pride of the Party committee, army and the ethnic minority groups of Dac Lac. It reflected the clear-sighted leadership and tactics of the Party politburo and the Central Military Party Committee in choosing the right time and place.”
In his address, member of the politburo and permanent member of the Party Secretariat Le Hong Anh asked the Party committee, administration, and people of Dac Lac to continue to enhance national unity and consolidate the local political system: “It’s essential to maintain sustainable economic growth, continue with the new rural development program, ensure social security, and reduce poverty, particularly in ethnic and remote areas. Efforts should be made to turn Buon Ma Thuot into one of the centers of the central highlands.”
Dac Lac province received Independence Order, first class, and Buon Ma Thuot city Independence Order, third class, to mark the occasion.
