(VOV) - China and Japan began the first round of talks on issues regarding maritime safety in Hangzhou, the capital of China’s eastern Zhejiang province on Tuesday. The negotiations have attracted a lot of public attention due to the increased tensions between the two nations over the sovereignty of the Diaoyu Islands as China calls them and Senkaku as they are called in Japan. Observers hope that the talks will bring an end to the dispute. Earlier, the Japanese media reported that the summit aims to prevent territorial conflicts in the surrounding waters.
