(VOVworld) - Twelve people have been sentenced to death on terrorism charges in China’s north-western region of Xinjiang.

They were among 81 people found guilty in 23 separate cases in municipal and district courts in Xinjiang. There of the twelve defendants will have their execution delayed for 2 years. Others received sentences of life imprisonment or shorter prison terms.
Beijing launched a counter-terrorism campaign in Xinjiang following suicide bombings in Urumqi that killed 39 and injured 90. Chinese police have targeted 23 terrorist and religious extremist groups, arresting 200 suspects and recovering more than 200 explosive devices.
