The fighting broke a peace agreement signed last year between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the government. Local officials said at least 27 SAF members were killed and 8 were missing, while the MILF claimed that only 5 of its members were killed. The clashes took place in Mamasapano town, Maguindanao province, in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The Philippine National Police has not made any announcement concerning the incident.
