The paintings span Vietnam’s war for national liberation to the present day. 30 paintings by seven of the most renowned contemporary Vietnamese artists brings the American audience different aspects of Vietnam from daily life, family bonds, and Hanoi’s vitality to the beauty of Vietnamese women in Ao Dai, Vietnam’s traditional long dress. The works comprise a broad spectrum of styles and media.

Painter Pham Luc says: "The topic of war and battlefields has been regularly exploited. I want to show the life of those in the rear. Although they were not in the front, they experienced lives as hard as the soldiers. Despite the hardship, people in the rear maintained close family bonds and good neighborliness. I feel strongly about this topic because I want to help the younger generation nurture a sincere love based on their predecessors’ tradition."
