Death toll from typhoon Yagi rises to 181, aid pours in to help affected people

(VOVWORLD) - Typhoon Yagi and subsequent landslides and floods had killed 181 people and left 145 missing as of 10:00 PM on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son visited Lang Son province and National Assembly Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong visited Dien Bien province to inspect recovery efforts. They urged local authorities to ensure maximum safety for the people and come up with plans to resume production and deal with flash floods and landslides.

Nearly 17 million USD in relief aid has been channeled through the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

The US on Wednesday announced a 1 million USD in immediate humanitarian aid through through the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Australian government announced it would provide Vietnam with an initial aid package of 3 million AUD, including humanitarian support efforts, emergency relief supplies, and other essential services to address the aftermath of the storm.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide water filters and multipurpose plastic tarps.
