(VOVworld) – The French Interior Ministry said the death toll in the truck attack in Nice has risen to 84. Interior ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said 84 people had been killed and scores injured, including 18 in "critical condition".

Authorities said the attacker drove a truck into the crowd, including local people and tourists, and had fired a gun several times before police shot him dead. The attacker was identified by police as a 31-year-old Tunisian-born Frenchman. Despite not being on the watchlist of French intelligence services, the man was known to police for crimes such as theft and violence.
