Vietnamese Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh told a Vietnam News Agency reporter on the sidelines of the dialogue that participants discussed opportunities for strengthening ASEAN-India cooperation brought by the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community by the end of this year and India’s reform program initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They also put forth several solutions like forging links between ASEAN and India, putting agreements into practice, increasing India’s involvement in the ASEAN market and India’s participation in ASEAN cooperation mechanisms through which India can help accelerate the adoption of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea. Thanh said free trade agreements in services and investment, which were signed by both sides last year and will take effect late this year, will offer a great opportunity for bilateral economic cooperation.
