Deputy PM discuss economic ties with US Secretaries

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, serving as a Special Envoy of General Secretary To Lam, met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Thursday to discuss key issues in bilateral economic and trade relations.

In his meeting with Treasury Secretary Bessent, Deputy PM Phoc reaffirmed Vietnam’s strong commitment to its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the US. He emphasized Vietnam’s desire to foster economic and trade ties in a balanced, harmonious, and sustainable manner.
Mr. Phoc welcomed the decision by both sides to begin negotiations on a reciprocal trade agreement, including tariff-related matters. He affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to engage in these talks and called for an accelerated negotiation process to reach an agreement as early as possible.
Secretary Bessent and Secretary Lutnick expressed their commitment to working closely with Vietnam to address emerging issues in bilateral trade and to pursue a mutually beneficial agreement.
Secretary Bessent noted his personal admiration for Vietnam and expressed appreciation for the country’s timely actions to address US concerns. He welcomed the decision to move forward with trade negotiations and said he will lead the US negotiating delegation.
