In an article released Tuesday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc wrote that the victory resulted from outstanding leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh and the strength of national unity. He added that the triumph keeps strengthening the Vietnamese Party, people, and army in national development and integration.
An article run by the People daily newspaper said that the Dien Bien Phu victory was a shining milestone in the nation’s history, opening a new chapter for Vietnam, and influencing all humanity at the end of the colonial era. The article said national construction and defense require the efforts of the Party, people, and armed forces to ensure sustainable national development and the ability to deal with external threats.
In another article, the People’s Army newspaper said the Dien Bien Phu triumph remains a source of great pride for Vietnamese people, whose spirit will spread to future generations and motivate Vietnamese people in national development.
Activities are taking place across Vietnam to mark the 65th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory. A seminar introducing the Vietnamese version of the book “General De Gaulle and Vietnam” by Pierre Journoud took place in Hanoi on Monday. The book gives readers a new perspective of Vietnam, France, and the US and historical figures of the 1945-1969 period including General Charles de Gaulle. Professor Pierre Journoud said he wanted to explain the victory of the Vietnamese people over the French colonialists and Vietnam’s partnership with nations who used to be enemies.
