This is the first time they have stood trial at the military court since the new constitution was approved and put into effect on January 18th. Egyptian border guard has arrested the 5 at the south border near Sudan in late January and they were accused of illegally possessing 7000 bullets and breaching to a military zone. Since the coup that ousted Morsi last July, Egypt’s interim government has launched a suppression targeting Muslim Brotherhood (MB) members and their supporters. Around 3000 MB members and supporters have been arrested and put on trial. The ousted President Morsi is currently on trial on charges of murdering protestors, organizing prison breaks, and espionage.
