Egyptian military rulers have officially begun crisis talks with leaders of political parties across the spectrum, a day after the cabinet submitted its resignation to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF). The move is aimed at ending the on-going crisis amid the severe violence in Cairo and other cities nationwide. The ruling SCAF has yet to accept the resignation but calls on all political forces to talk to each other for a solution. Following the talks, Egypt’s presidential candidate, Mohamed Selim al-Awwa said that relevant parties have reached an agreement to form a national salvation government.

In another development, Egyptians urged a million demonstrators to denounce the suppression of the military police forces over the past few days and require the military rulers to transfer the powers to civilian elements. UN Secretary General Ban Kimoon urged the Egyptian Military Council to honor the civilian rights to freedom and expressed his sympathy over the death of Egyptian civilians during recent clashes.
