(VOVworld) – The Cairo Criminal Court on Wednesday imposed a 3-year-prison sentence on deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for embezzling public funds to repair the Presidential Palace.

Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, along with their father, were sentenced in prison for embezzlement.

Mubarak’s sons, Alaa and Gamal, were sentenced to 4 years in prison on the same charges. The defendants were also fined almost 3 million USD and forced to return the 14 million USD they embezzled. This was the second trial for Mubarak since a coup ended his presidency in 2011. It was not clear whether the three years Mubarak and his sons have already spent in prison will be counted.
